Our outing to the Biosphere / Notre sortie au Biosphère.

Four members, one animator, our permanent helper as well as one parent and a volunteer driver headed of to longueil for the begining of our adventure.

The first thing was a trip on the Metro, several of the girls had never been on one before. Thought a short trip from longueil to St-Helens island, former home of Expo"67, it was nonetheless exciting.

At the Biosphere the girls learn about about how water works, ways to save energy, took part in an eco drivers race, checked out half a car and all the products it uses as well as learn about blue algae which is one of the concerns right here in lac-Brome. We brought along a lunch and ate outside where a variety of wild life welcomed us.

We checked out the solar house which had very eco-friendly landscaping as well as energy savings devices.

Interesting article

The answers come from life cycle assessment (or LCA), the method used by industrial ecologists -- a discipline that blends industrial engineering and chemistry with environmental science and biology -- to assess how man-made systems impact natural ones. LCAs tells us that buying food in one store that's been shipped in bulk leaves a smaller carbon footprint than driving around town to the local bakery, farmer's market, and dairy.

Camp L'Hameau Oasis

The first Oasis camp "terre d'apprentisage" was a blast 34 youth and 12 staff members participated. The group from four different Maison des Jeunes from the area (Cowansville, Bedford, Sutton/Lac-Brome & Farnham) got together for a weekend of fun and reflection on the environment. L'Hameau Oasis is newly founded environmental/agricultural location for youth right here in our area, situated at the old Camp Sacré-Coeur in Dunham. The grounds have so many possibilities for eco-projects. The youth were given a guided tour and the object was for them to come up with ideas on how they felt they could make a difference, each using their abilities and passions to guide them in their choices. Various workshops were hosted such as photography, music/lyrics, writing & creative expressionism with the environment as its main theme. Four more camps are scheduled within the next year, with the goal of making their ideas a reality. Not only did this camp raise environmental awareness but also it helped bridge gaps that might not have been possible otherwise.

Une levée de fonds écolo-verte! / A Truly Green Fundraiser

Last Saturday April 18th, the Maison des Jeunes Lac Brome’s Green Project truly fundraised in green style. This small group of teens who are dedicated to showing how much they care about the environment got up early to show their commitment. Thanks to Mr. Allaire, owner of Brome Eco, who generously donated his new 100% biodegradable and recyclable bags and Mme Gazaille owner of the local IGA who provided us with a place at her store. Without their support this fundraiser would not have been possible. The youth not only raised awareness of the importance of the 3 R’s but also raised enough funds to support some of their ideas and projects for helping the environment.

Saturday April 25th from 10 am to 3 pm the Green Project is organizing a clean up day at the Lions Park in Lac Brome. We invite you all to come lend a hand and meet this dynamic group.
A special thanks to the community for your support.

Upcoming Activities

Things we hope to do, pending town approval:

April 25th Clean up in Lion's park
May 9th Fish project, which involves painting yellow fish with stencils next to manholes and drains in town to remind folks about things that can go into our waterways.

Plants flowers that we've grown ourselves, beneath the Maison des Jeunes windows.
Go to farmer markets to see what is available locally and find out how "green" the food really is.
We will have a booth at the Brome Ecosphere in September.

Be the change

Use soy candles, unlike paraffin candles, which are made from petrol, soy candles are made from natural ingredients and release ninety percent less soot into the air. You'll save energy, keep your indoor air cleaner and perhaps start a few sparks of your own.

Our Logo Idea's

Hey guy's

Today what we did was Brain Storm idea's for our logo that we would like to Make.
We've come up with Various things such as
1-we would have a design of a lake and someone throwing a rock in it and the saying would be ( Be the Ripple)
2- we would have a design of a skunk with it's tail up saying (I might be toxic to you but not to the environment)
3- we would have a Bear comming out of it's cave from hybernating and around it's cave would be litter and the Bear would say ( I woke up for this?)
4-we would have a deer and it would be saying either ( I may be a deer to you but the environment is deer to me) or (Don't make me pay for your mistake)
5-we would have a squirl holding something either a nut or the world and it saying ( Nut's about the environment)
6-we would have a fish and it say (I may not talk but don't trash me) or the fish holding a fishing pole and reeling in trash and it saying ( Get the Reel In)
7-we would have a chamilion saying ( help be the change)
8-we would have a bee it would be white and green and it would be saying either ( Bee involved) or (Bee Green) or ( If we're buzzin' about the environment you should be too)

This is what we have come up with we would like to know wich one you guys prefer or if any of you guys out there have any ideas please, we welcome you to share them with us we really need your help to make it a great success

About Wall-E

Hey Every One

Have you seen the movie Wall-E. Well if you have seen it then you know about what happened to the world in the movie and I am talking about this because this can happen to our world if we dont help it now. I know what you are thinking how can I help? I am only one person and it is a big world but you can help by recycling one little thing like a can or a bag because if we just sit there and throw trash everywhere then our world will become ugly and we may have to move to space and we will become fat just like the people in the movie. So if you help just pick up trash if you see it on the floor or by recycling. So think about it and if you want to help ok,
well bye people.

Be the change

Think twice before you hit that print button, or wrap a gift in paper, or throw paper in the trash.

We started a green project to show you guys that every little move that you do leads us closer to a better world :). Our goals are to start off small and hopefully expand to different areas. We are trying make sure that people are being responsibleand not using chemicals to kill one little bug that can be killed with one finger. Like for example instead of using alot of RAID to kill one spider take a shoe and squish. We do this every second Saturday of the month at LE SPOT in Knowlton!!:) We encourage you to join us. We need YOU to help make a bigger difference in this town.
